Stanley Black & Decker Internship & Company Overview

Since 1843, we’ve set the standard for excellence in everything we do. No company on earth has a stronger or more compelling history of delivering the hardworking, innovative, powerful tools that help professionals around the world build, repair, and protect the world’s most valuable things.

We are the leader in tools and security. We are Stanley Tools. We are DeWalt. We are Mac Tools. We are Porter-Cable. And we are much more. We are the doors that protect you at airports. We are the lock and deadbolt on your front door. We are the hydraulic breakers that rescue trapped earthquake survivors. We are the people on the phone in an emergency.

No matter where you live, what car you drive, what stores you shop at, or what building you work in, you can bet that we had a hand in making it work. And you can guarantee that we’ll keep making it work.*

Pros:

- I know understand HR software like BrassRing, which I'll use in the future.
- Able to see the whole recruitment cycle with a couple interns. Recruited, screened, and hired.

Cons:

Not that creative.

Advice for other students:

Practice interview with a video camera.

Pros:

- Everybody at Stanley Black & Decker in Townson was very friendly to me and helped show me the ropes.
- I feel like this will lead to an entry level offer after senior year.
- I still keep in touch with my boss who was a great guy.
- Learned all about SAP which is a hard skill I can leverage when looking for an entry level position.

Cons:

Some parts of the internship were a little dull, but not too bad. There was also some times were I would be super busy and other times where I didn't have anything to do - I guess this comes with the territory.

Advice for other students:

Stanley Black and Decker is a great company and I recommend the Towson office.

Pros:

I was shocked and thrilled with how much real experience I got designing, sketching, and building prototypes. I was also forced to learn a ton about how to effectively communicate to the engineering department through meetings and requirements. It's always interesting to see how the design to development/engineering process works and Stanley Black & Decker does it well. Other pros include: great boss, well paid, and they are a well known company.

Cons:

Not too much.

Advice for other students:

If you want an industrial design internship where you actually do stuff, go to Stanley Black & Decker. I recommend it.
