Pros:

Brand people know.

Cons:

Students and potential broadcasters, do you want to be mis-led, work for free, get employees their Sodas, and run up to the second floor to confirm their lunch dates, do endless amounts of work thinking you will be given a chance to prove yourself only to find out that it will never happen

If this sounds appealing, then a Sirius/XM Internship is for you. For more information, contact Ross Herosian in the DC office., and you too can have that magical feeling of waste, discontent, and be lighter in the wallet for it. Hurry, because spaces to be used are limited, and we have a lot of work to do, that we can just get interns to do and use them, instead of hiring employees for it.

I paid 11K, moved from California to DC, drove across the country, and put all my stuff in storage to do 253 hours of free labor. They say that they do not like to hire people outside the area, because it has caused problems, yet the only problems were caused by them not me. I did what was asked of me and worked hard and long to do it, getting good reviews in the process. They intern would not even listen to a tape, and promised me to do demo tappings of my show, with out delivering. I delivered everything asked of me, Can Sirius/XM say the same? Great for novices or people who want to do free work and pay to do it. I would not recommend.

Advice for other students:

Stay away.

Pros:

If you like music, producing, and programming, you will love this. I was able to listen to new music, meet some artists as they came in and pitch, and I learned how the whole process works.

Cons:

Unpaid. This is standard in the media business (I think). Don't take it if you are looking for money.

Advice for other students:

The experience outweighs the lack of money.

Pros:

-good location
-interns get to work on some projects that are useful to company

Cons:

-my manager would disappear for hours at a time
-this isn't an environment to learn at - they treat you like you are here to do the work they are too busy to do
-communication in poor amongst employees

Advice for other students:

if students aren't being paid to intern, students should be able to ask their managers questions without having to wait hours and hours on end. that is not the case at sirius xm. also, don't plan on things being different if you're an actual employee here - i was told by full-time employees they wait around for their managers as much as i did.
