Pros:

Highly recommend interning with Ogilvy & Mather. You get real-world experience and get to interact with some of the best and brightest in the industry. You get a lot out of this internship. You learn more about yourself and the industry as a whole. You also learn about office culture and how to interact in the "job world" so there is surely a huge takeaway from this internship. Loved everyone I worked with. They were always available to answer any questions and are always in your corner helping you succeed.

Cons:

Depending on your position/client, the work can be tedious but it pays off in the end. Hard work always pays off!

Pros:

Coming to an agency with no corporate experience can be very daunting -- or so I thought. Everyone is so welcoming and willing to teach you what they know; but they're also more than willing to hear what ideas you've got. Surprisingly all the dots -- my education, varied areas of interest and past work experiences -- have started to connect quite nicely. My experiences in government and with nonprofits are valid and the insights I bring because of them are valued.

Cons:

I'd like to see more of a complete intern picture. How does the program work in other offices, etc.? What are the other interns doing? Are they enjoying their experiences? By the by, I just discovered the Ogilvy Craftsmen of Culture blog, which is a great resource for insights into the NY office -- one step closer to that full picture.

Advice for other students:

Apply to this program if you believe sometimes a little different means really good. Ogilvy's culture is truly one of excellence, cultivated by intellect and innovation.

Pros:

I got treated as an actual art director and was assigned to real projects. The clients are awesome and you get the opportunity to work on a wide range of products and services. My co-workers were amazing and the reason I accepted the full-time offer given to me at the end of my internship when I graduated.

Cons:

None!

Advice for other students:

Go for this! It was the best experience and opportunity I could have ever been given to start my career as an art director.

Pros:

Working with the brightest minds in the industry, gaining real experience, minimal "intern" work, and being treated like an entry level employee as opposed to an intern. Interns can also attend weekly training sessions AND specialized intern lunch & learn sessions.

Cons:

None that I can think of at the moment.

Advice for other students:

KNOW ABOUT INDUSTRY NEWS! There are so many co-interns who are not studying ad/marketing and have never heard of AdAge, Adweek, FastCo, Mashable, etc.

Pros:

Loved my internship at Ogilvy. They've got a great internship program. I worked mostly on the IBM and Fanta accounts - both cool clients. To see the creative process (brief to internal pitch to client pitch to production) was very cool.

Cons:

Cracking into this industry is so freaking hard.

Advice for other students:

Ogilvy is a top agency and has the best advertising internships in my opinion.

- Worked on digital and print projects for Sears/Kmart and IBM. Amazing brands.
- Pitched a mock campaign to a panel of Ogilvy execs. They broke us up into intern groups and we each pitched a fully integrated campaign.

Cons:

I love media and I wish I got more media exposure.

Advice for other students:

When you get to Ogilvy, be aggressive and take on as many projects as you can.

Pros:

- The people at Ogilvy.
- Lots of seminars/lunches where you can soak up rich advertising knowledge.
- Paid and in NYC.
- Exposure to production and creative department.
- My favorite part of the Ogilcy internship is the intern projects. This year, they chose IKEA as the brand/client. We split up into 5 intern teams and you get the chance to pitch a campaign. It's amazing and competitive.

Cons:

After the internship, I was much more interesting in planning rather than straight account work.

Advice for other students:

- My advice to ad students is walk a thin line between aggressive and friendly.
- I had friends at Mullen, Arnold, Y&R, etc and I can tell you that I had the best summer experiences.

Cons:

I connected with the Neo@Ogilvy team. Great group of people. I'm also lucky to have gotten paid and the office is amazing. I was exposed to several projects including digital media planning and buying for Kodak and Six Flags. To be part of these buys, and the analytics behind them, are eye opening. I also had the opportunity to pitch a campaign for a high-growth coffee company and come up with a branded/content roadmap. I'm truly lucky to have had this type of summer experience - it'll change my life/career.

Cons:

no

Advice for other students:

Digital budgets are growing. I really recommend helping a local business with a search and display campaign. You'll learn stuff that will be valuable to your ad career.

Pros:

I worked closely with an Account Executive on the Kraft portfolio. Kraft brands included: Honey Bunches of Oats, Balance Bar and Grape-Nuts. I was able to see how the agency business functions and specifically the AE role. Some fun work included: social media competitive landscape for Kraft brands, project management for online display ad campaign, and helped with brainstorming sessions for Hellman's pitch. The other interns and Ogilvy staff were terrific to work with.

Cons:

- It's paid, but the pay is low.
- Even with an internship, entry level positions are tough to come by.

Advice for other students:

Ogilvy internships are difficult to get, so find an angle.
