Pros:
Nordstrom's is a great place to learn the retail business. I loved being in the actual store rather than at corporate HQs (although I would like to be there at some point). While I was at Nordstrom's I rotated between different departments which gave me a variety of work. It was very interesting to work with the Sales Inventory Management Team and HR Team. Pretty eye opening. Overall, this was a great internship.
Cons:
I wish I understood and got to know the buying process better - it's very interesting to me.
Advice for other students:
Apply early and be passionate. I think managers hire based on passion.

Pros:
- Finished the Future Nordstrom Leaders Program.
- I was given real responsibility. I worked in certain areas of the women's department and managed selling, scheduling, and floor merchandising.
- It was fascinating to learn about visual merchandising and loss prevention.
- Flexible.
- Good manager.
Cons:
I would have enjoyed learning more about the buying process.
Advice for other students:
Don't be afraid to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty with real work.

Pros:
- One of the top performers for Nordstrom.
- Sales techniques.
- Learned mgmt skills.
- Loved working with regional buyers to talk through product placement and merchandising.
Cons:
Being a floor sales rep doesn't excite me too much. I love the buying and merchandising side of the business.
Advice for other students:
My advice is to get internships early and often.

Pros:
- Great boss.
- Fun intern project where the other interns and I put on a storewide fashion event to highlight merchandise.
- Exposure to Nordstrom's CFO and marketing execs.
- Merchandising experience.
Cons:
- I wanted to see more of the Nordstrom buying process.
Advice for other students:
Most Nordtrom internships are related to an actual store and not at their headquarters. If you're really into it, I recommend going to the store and trying to talk with the manager.

Pros:
I was out there working the floor of Nordstrom in LA. I got real experience selling merchandise and working with customers. There are also perks if you're selling.
Cons:
- It's sales, so be ready for it.
Advice for other students:
The best way to get into retail isn't always to go straight into merchandising or buying - I think it's to get on the retail floor and sell.
