Pros:
The best part of my internship was living in NYC and meeting new people at my job. There were interns from all over the U.S. that I got to meet. I learned a lot of corporate culture dynamics of being in a large company. I was given research tasks that were rewarding when completed. We got free concerts in the office on some fridays, where bands would come into the conference room and play for us. I got to attend MTV branding meetings and conference calls.
Cons:
There was some typical intern grunt work - research mostly.
Advice for other students:
Be yourself, be honest, have confidence, and make friends with everybody you work with. Don’t be the stereotypical intern, who is shy and doesn’t talk. Show that you are worthy of being there and would be a good candidate for a real position in the company. Make them want you back by showing how hard you work.

Pros:
MTV Networks has an internal ad agency to help create advertising materials for the network and sister companies. I helped out with copy and brainstorming work. It was really interesting to see how this agency within a media company worked. The projects were cool and I was able to actively contribute, even as an intern.
Cons:
- Not a huge variety of clients.
- It takes a long time to get things approved and produced.
Advice for other students:
MTV has some incredible internships. Get creative when applying, they see a ton of typical cover letters and resumes.
