Pros:
I could not believe the level of work I was able to produce as an intern. They not only let me contribute to big projects, they expected me to -- and to keep up! The Meyocks Group is super selective because they expect interns to contribute as part of a team. There's very little busy work and NO hand holding. That means you get to work on real projects for real clients and if it's good enough, your work gets presented and produced. It also means you have to show up and give it your all every day. They're great about answering questions and providing training and fully enabling you to make the most of the opportunity, but don't expect anyone to go out of the way unless asked. (In which case everyone is more than willing to help!) I found out quickly that I needed to seek out work and speak up when I wanted to be involved in something. Katie, Chad and Rachel were especially helpful in answering questions and making me feel welcome. It was an incredibly rewarding experience, but I definitely had to step up to the challenge. I witnessed other interns who were less willing (or maybe too intimidated?) to speak up and get involved who as a result, didn't get as much out of it.
Cons:
Smaller agency, so not the New York agency world feel, but I liked this.
Advice for other students:
Apply in a creative way. Creativity is valued.
