Pros:
Real big agency experience, with very important brands as clients.
Cons:
Completely impersonal treatment by bosses and very little interest about your works, progress and possible promotion.
Advice for other students:
Just go, get experience and leave it. I know many cases of people who were there for years not being paid. Finally for nothing.

Pros:
Interning at McCann Erickson over the summer was an incredible experience. The internship gave me a glimpse into the ad world and what day to day life is like from the account side. ALDI Foods account team was a fun group and they taught me the ropes. I did a lot of competitive analysis and digital strategy work.
Cons:
It's hard to convert an agency internship into a fulltime job.
Advice for other students:
Breaking into the advertising industry is tough. Also, make sure you keep up to date with the industry on AdAge.com, etc.

Pros:
I loved interning at McCann Erickson. If you are into advertising, you need to take a look at NYC big agencies and get up here! During the internship, I performed a SWOT analysis on a certain Nestle product and drafted a communications plan for the product.
Cons:
none.
Advice for other students:
Go to NYC if you love advertising. Find a way into one of the huge shops.

Cons:
- Creative can be stressful under deadline. And, competitive.
- It's tough to get work actually produced.
Advice for other students:
If you're a minority, get involved in the MAIP program.

Pros:
- Worked on the Chevrolet global team.
- Enjoyed the work: competitive research, social media planning, creative research, and general account mgmt.
- McCann takes educating interns seriously.
- I'm a big car guy and I helped work on the Chevrolet Aveo campaign introduction which was very cool.
Cons:
Tough to land an entry level offer and McCann doesn't make offers until spring. It's tough because all my investment banking buddies have jobs lined up before Thanksgiving.
Advice for other students:
If you are interviewing at an agency, know their clients.

Pros:
I had an unbelievable experience at McCann Erickson and this was an amazing career opportunity. The people, both bosses and other interns, were sharp. I had hands on experience concepting and story boarding for a series of TV commercials (w/ copywriter partner). I worked on several clients, but mostly Weight Watchers. McCann Erickson has a very cool office in NYC. I really enjoyed the intern project - we competed to come up with the best app concept.
Cons:
Exposure to more accounts.
Advice for other students:
McCann Erickson NY only hired about 12 creative interns my summer, so this is highly competitive. And, I think they got 1,000+ applications. You have to be aggressive and standout.

Pros:
- McCann Erickson has an incredible planning department. I met nice people and I learned a ton just by being in their planning meetings.
- Participated in launch strategy for Nikon. Given the reigns to Simmons consumer research and online social media monitoring tool.
- Involved in a new business pitch that I loved. New business is exhilarating and there is a ton of agency energy around new business.
- Worked with a couple other on a competitive analysis of certain Bertolli categories.
Cons:
none.
Advice for other students:
Inside an agency, you'll get exposure to all different roles/functions/departments - make sure you broadcast your passions and work on the right projects.

Pros:
- Gained real experience on the Dentyne and GlaxoSmithKline accounts.
- Participated in creative brainstorming and planning meetings.
- Media was fascinating. I think that may be what I get into.
- Good people.
- Cool office.
- NYC can't be beat. And, the group of interns got along really well together.
Cons:
Account executives deal with a ton of detail. Part of me feels like the role is just an organizer.
Advice for other students:
McCann Erickson has one of the best and well known ad agency internships - it's a great place to get your foot in the door. I was ultimately offered a job and took it at McCann.

Pros:
At McCann Erickson I worked on the US Army account. The creative teams and account team attached to the US Army are outstanding and I learned a lot just by being around them. I did a lot of organizing and different billing follow ups, but the best part about the internship was the group project and the freedom I was given to come up with a social media content plan for different channels. The intern group project was for General Mill's Hamburger Helper brand. Cool summer internship.
Cons:
Working at an ad agency can be a ton of work and not that much pay.
Advice for other students:
My internship led to a fulltime job offer from McCann Erickson and I work there now, great place.

Pros:
- McCann has a cool office and culture was generally upbeat.
- Learned social media monitoring tools.
- Absolutely loved the meetings were we brainstormed promotions.
- Also did some research and general brand monitoring (responding to issues).
Cons:
none
Advice for other students:
Social media is hot right now - it's a good time to get involved.
- Make sure to know the difference in ad agency roles: media, account, planner, digital, etc. Know what field you'd like to get into.
- Make sure you are active on social.

Pros:
- McCann let me dabble in both account and creative. I was trying to figure out which side of the business I was more interested in (I've got a background in graphics).
- Saab was a cool account.
- My boss was terrific. She was very smart and explained things to me.
- Interesting work.
Cons:
The first few days can be overwhelming. The account director on my Sabb account handed me a huge packet/binder with a ton of information for me to review. I also wish that McCann Erickson made more entry level hires, we'll see...
Advice for other students:
- Be creative in your application.
- Don't wait for work, make things happen.
- If you're interested, test out both the creative and account side.

Pros:
I really connected with the account team on Chevrolet at McCann Erickson. The quick pros include:
- global account
- incredibly smart brand team
- huge account
- other McCann interns were a ton of fun to hangout with
- my opinion was valued in meetings (people actually listened to the intern)
Cons:
Some account roles seemed less strategic and more coordination.
Advice for other students:
Follow who is winning different advertising pitches, that is where the jobs are.

Pros:
McCann Erickson shows their interns a great time! I worked on the Aldi account. Our account had two interns and I was on the digital intern. It was very cool to do some hands on graphic design projects and help coordinate some microsite and digital campaigns. I learned a ton about metrics. Everybody at this McCann Erickson office was amazing and the exposure I got was unbelievable.
Cons:
Entry level advertising jobs are so hard to crack into.
Advice for other students:
Be passionate when you apply to McCann and know which accounts they have and what work they have recently produced.

Pros:
Lunch and learns are great and everyone is really nice. Much more traditional company, but it's a great place to learn the business.
Cons:
Pretty big, so doesn't have the feel of a small startup agency. But, that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Advice for other students:
Apply to a bunch of ad internships as they are difficult to get. Don't rule out the smaller agencies even though they don't look as good on your resume.
