Pros:
The best part of the internship was being able to see the whole company. While I was in Central Finance, the internship group was able to take tours of other facilities. I was able to see in detail the THAAD, FBM, and Solar Array divisions. This was extremely rewarding and interesting because as a business student, I got to see what i was indirectly assisting.
Throughout the summer there were also executive presentations. They told us what they did, how they got there, and other interesting things that they do. This showed that there is high potential to move up in the company by anyone, as long as they assert themselves.
Lockheed also strongly encouraged the interns to do an executive shadow. I shadowed a woman high up in the FBM program and was able to attend some of her meetings to see what goes on and how a whole system is run. There was also a great networking opportunity through this; I got to meet people very high up in the company (a few of which were grads from my college) and chat with them a little.
Cons:
Lockheed is a huge company, so make sure you know what you want to do when you're there.
Advice for other students:
My advice to students looking for an internship is to apply early and often. I started looking in January, and that was almost too late. And send applications to many companies to ensure being selected by at least one, and if more extend an offer, there is an opportunity to select the best company for your needs.
