Pros:
I basically acted as a business/market analyst to support Kellogg's field sales team. There is a ton of data that goes into smart decision making around product sales, etc. I was absolutely shocked at the science behind merchandising/retail - absolutely fascinating and it's stuff that I never came close to learning in all my marketing classes. My boss taught me all the internal systems. What I loved the most about the internship is that I was able to proactively pitch different business ideas to increase profit - I was kind of expected to do this.
Cons:
Never got to go to HQs.
Advice for other students:
Know excel and math. Marketing is a ton more analytical that you think and it's important to understand stats.

- Learned Vocus media software (hard skill).
- This internship had communications, pr, and marketing all rolled into one.
- Fast paced most of the time.
- Outstanding manager, she took the time to walk me through the whole news brief process and discuss strategy.
- Included on strategy meetings that were interesting.
- Contributed.
- Paid.
Cons:
I read a bunch of media and some parts of the research became repetitive.
Advice for other students:
I can't speak highly enough about this communications internship at Kellogg. I learned a ton and I'm now well positioned for the job hunt senior year.

Pros:
- Learned the ins and outs of Kellogg's/Target's relationship.
- Used data to track basically everything.
- Brought up ideas on how to improve the process and my boss listened to me.
- Great boss and team. They took me out to eat all the time and were totally candid about the business.
- Minneapolis is cool, seriously.
- Paid well.
Cons:
Would've liked to see more of the Kellogg operations instead of just the Target account.
Advice for other students:
Geez, I've got to say that both Target and Kellogg's are great companies to work for - post graduation, I'd like to be back on one of their teams.
