Pros:
My internship was with the RF Communications Division of Harris Corporation. RF Communications supplies secure communications products and networks for government, public safety, and professional organizations globally. I was the Indirect Sales intern. However, my specific duties had more to do with research than they did with selling. The Indirect Sales department is responsible for selling Harris Land Mobile Radios to dealers around the country. My job was primarily to research the dealers for Harris' competition. I compiled an extensive database of the locations and capabilities of dealers nationwide that carried Harris competitors' products as well as Harris dealer locations and capabilities. A large part of the work I did was weeding through the massive amounts of information available and developing pertinent information into more user-friendly resources. Along with researching, I also compiled information for specific Harris projects and assisted with the reorganization of online training classes for employees, etc.
This internship taught me how important research is for a company to know their market. Information is vast, and must be utilized in ways that will best serve the company and its objectives. Having an advantage over the competition requires having a knowledge of what they are capable of and doing it better.
I enjoyed working for Harris Corporation because it is a business full of people with integrity who truly care about their customers. Harris was listed as one of the "World's Most Ethical Companies" for 2010. They also sent teams of employees down to Haiti after the earthquake to install temporary communications networks until the local systems could be repaired. I had the opportunity to speak with one of the senior engineers at Harris who was part of the Haiti team. He spoke of the trip as "one of the most fullfilling things I've ever done." I also had some very interesting conversations with some of the individuals in charge of Harris' international accounts.
Cons:
None.
Advice for other students:
Interning at Harris Corporation allowed me to appreciate the importance of working for a company that values people and strives to meet their needs.

Pros:
The most rewarding aspect of my time at Harris has been the broad view I have received at every stage of a project. Harris BCD is unique in that an entire product is often created in the same facility, yet they have offices around the world working in unison. I had the opportunity to get involved with every stage of development from many views including marketing, engineering and production.
Cons:
nope.
Advice for other students:
Harris Corporation is a great company to work for, I highly recommend it.
