Kind of felt like a second class citizen within Goldman. The investment banking and other finance/trading units are clearly the core.
Advice for other students:
Good for the resume, but I would have loved to do the IB internship.

Pros:
- Flat organization and I had several interactions with my Managing Director.
- Goldman Sachs is amazing on the resume. It's the best type of screener. I didn't work for them after graduation, but there is no doubt that the main reason I landed the great job that I did because of that resume item.
- Goldman doesn't watch you punch the clock or have you do typical petty internship stuff. I was put on a main project and given freedom.
- Goldman assigns you a buddy/mentor for the summer to help you out.
Cons:
no
Advice for other students:
Network with your alumni.

Pros:
Goldman is one of the best companies/brands in the world. After you work here, you can basically work anywhere. I was assigned a project over the summer and they hook you up with a finance crash course that is pretty interesting. I honestly thought there would be more of a good old boys network at Goldman, but once you are on the inside, everybody is pretty pleasant. And, everybody is incredibly smart.
Cons:
Operations is not as cool as the finance side.
Advice for other students:
Be ready for the interview (after you pass the phone screen). The interview has the typical questions - tell me about yourself, leadership story, creative solution, disagreement with peer and what happened, etc. Oh, and know the answer to "why goldman sachs?" Keep the GPA up, it matters and must be high.

I learned a ton about the real financial world over the summer at Goldman. I'll never forget the experience and I'm grateful. I analyzed structured product holdings. I ranked and evaluated Asian hedge funds. And, I analyzed legacy holdings and prepared marketing materials for Commercial Mortgage Backed Security Trading. It was intense and fun.
Cons:

Pros:
I know, when you think Goldman Sachs, you don't really think event planning. I didn't either, but I had a family friend that works on the event planning staff. The summer was very interesting and I'm glad I did it. Goldman puts on conferences (etc) and my team was tasked with planning these events - most of the heavy lifting is done by contractors, so we just painted the broad strokes. In general, everybody was much nicer that I expected and the summer in New York was amazing.
Cons:
Not sure that I want to be an event planner.
Advice for other students:
Good place for the summer.

(3) Part of team that created a business continuity playbook model for certain countries and regions of the world.
Other than these projects, I loved the people, the Goldman brand, and my boss.
Cons:
None really. I was actually quite shocked at the level of exposure and responsibility I was given as an intern.
Advice for other students:
If you are a technologist and you can understand the global markets/ finance, getting a job is dead simple.

Pros:
My summer internship experience at Goldman was outstanding. Goldman rotated our intern group through 4 lines of business: Investment Management, Securities, Investment Banking, Global Investment Research. I really connected with the Investment Banking work. This is also a feeder program into junior year internships and eventually full-time roles (several other banks have these sophomore programs as well).
Cons:
none
Advice for other students:
I couldn't ask for a better internship experience as a Sophomore. Also, Goldman is very selective for this program.

Pros:
Goldman Sachs offered me a rotational program internship as a Sophmore. I rotated through Investment Banking, Securities, Investment Management, and Research units. Great experience to see all parts of the Goldman business. Everybody treated me extremely well and welcomed me to the company. I'm very thankful for the opportunity that Goldman gave us.
Cons:
This was more of an educational experience and recruiting internship than a get things done experience.
Advice for other students:
There were only 10 of us, so highly selective.
