Pros:

I worked in the Travel Retail Department at Estee Lauder. I did get to work with some unique brands like Aramis Designer Fragrances, GoodSkin Labs, and Origins.

Cons:

I didn't really feel like I could contribute too much to things that mattered. Spent a lot of time doing some silly tasks.

Advice for other students:

Internship experience is important. Sometimes in retail, you need to work from the basement floor up.

Pros:

I was able to participate in buying meetings and learn the nuts and bolts of the retail industry. It's not all glitz and glamour. I enjoyed the Estee Lauder internship because I love the fashion/retail world and I also really enjoyed business. My boss was very nice to me and her and I still keep in touch.

Cons:

I never had any real responsibility and felt like an assistant most of the time.

Advice for other students:

Places like Estee Lauder are sooo hard to break into. This internship wasn't perfect, but I made a ton of contacts and I think I've got a decent chance to land an entry level gig after senior year.

Pros:

Worked with the merchandising team to analyze shelf space in big box retail stores. Never realized the math and analytics that went into this business. Worked with makeup products. Fun and interesting internship.

Cons:

Would love to have got paid more.

Advice for other students:

The analytics is surprising when you think about these huge companies, but soak it up and use it on your resume.
