Pros:
This is hands down the best agency in South Carolina and probably the greater southeast. Without rehashing what everyone else here has already said, it's an awesome place to work and Greenville is an awesome place to live.
Cons:
We weren't allowed to do any actual work my year, which kind of limited the usefulness of the experience for us. It was a good intro to ad agencies but didn't give us any practical skills.
Also, an internship is only as good as it's job opportunities. Out of eight interns, only one of us got a job offer despite multiple positions were open. It was just kind of a let-down after we had all had so much fun and thought everyone liked working with us.
Advice for other students:
A big agency in a big city will teach you more and probably give you a job after it too.
EP is good if you know you want to stay in the southeast.

Pros:
At EP I have gained real experience at a full-service agency. I have worked for in-house and simple PR agencies before, but never have I seen such a creative and fun filled environment that performs that outstanding work these individuals create. I am constantly amazed and constantly learning from these great professionals. They treat me as one of their colleagues and take in what I have to say as well as teach me how to succeed in this profession.
Cons:
It is only 8 weeks! I wish the experience could last longer because there is so much to take in here. But alas all good things must come to an end I suppose.
Advice for other students:
APPLY HERE! Not only do you grow in your field but you experience marketing as a whole. Anything seems possible here at EP. Interns come from all over the world just to work here. We learn from each other and we learn from our teams giving us the perfect combination we need to enter the work-force.

Pros:
EP has one of the most creative, engaging, challenging, encouraging, and brilliant work environments I've ever seen.
Cons:
There is not enough time in eight weeks to fully explore and soak in all the facets that make EP into the company it is - which is by no means a con for company - but more so for the intern who wants to explore and learn everything.
Advice for other students:
Engage with this company, in any capacity. Whether that be social media, an internship, applying for a full time position, or just taking a tour. This is a place you simply have to step foot in, because whether it's five minutes, an hour, or eight weeks, it will be life changing for you.

Pros:
This internship provided the perfect environment for my needs as an aspiring advertising professional: a friendly, and open work space, which allowed me to seek out new experiences. Erwin-Penlands business culture is very people orientated; it rejects social boundaries between departments and titles. Everybody was approachable, friendly, and accommodating- what a great place to learn and be curious.
Cons:
It was far away. I did fly over from Hawai'i though...
Advice for other students:
New York is over-rated.

Pros:
The people are fantastic.
We had a really exciting group project that let us get a feel for how the agency really works.
We were included in all agency wide things and felt very accepted by the other employees.
Everyone is extremely helpful and will always take the time to answer any questions you have.
Everyone in the company was available and open about their experiences.
You just can't beat the company culture.
Cons:
Not one I can think of.
Advice for other students:
Don't just be passionate about advertising, be passionate about Erwin Penland. Show them why you're different.

Pros:
-Best agency family you'll ever meet
-Handling national client work makes for a true hands on work-experience
-Intern class project is a team-work learning exercise for all
-Safe small city atmosphere
-Great lunch spots
Cons:
I think you miss out on a huge industry lesson if your first job out of school is not overwhelming, chaotic and at times stressful. EP is a huge family and always felt like a fun and happy place to go into work -- a great atmosphere to learn -- but maybe not the best place to cut your teeth.
Advice for other students:
APPLY HERE. Interning with EP was one of the best experiences of my higher education and helped me determine a track for my career. The flexibility to work on almost any project is one you will be rarely offered.
EP will only settle for the best and sets it's BHAG higher every year. Differentiate yourself from the masses of applicants they receive and don't be afraid to show your potential.

Pros:
-Team project is structured like a mini-ad agency and allows insight into what it is like to work with all departments.
-Laid back work environment allows creativity to flow easier
-Everyone is willing to show you what they do on a daily basis
-Shadowing different departments and different people allows for a more well rounded employee
-The flexibility of the company and the willingness to take on new challenges inspired me
Advice for other students:
-Be sure to shadow someone in your department or in others because it gives you a better understanding of the work flow and it allows you to see what area you would fit best
-Don't be afraid to ask questions and be inquisitive, they are very willing to teach you and answer any questions

Pros:
- great national brands
- real world experience
- opportunities to use creativity in every aspect of the internship
- great culture/ people
- gained knowledge of other fields within the agency besides creative
- overall great internship
Cons:
Greenville is definitely a family town. Great food and people, but not as accommodating for the young crowd.
Advice for other students:
An internship like this will give you a huge step up in the real world. I was able to land a great job right out of school and I feel that Erwin-Penland really helped to prepare me for it. Interships like this are great for finding what you like about the advertising business and what you don't.

Pros:
*A great introduction to PR - drafted and sent out press releases and media advisories to local, national and trade media, attended promotional events for clients, participated in department meetings and brainstorms
*The department as well as others in agency are the friendliest group of co-workers I've ever had in an internship, some remain good friends of mine
*Greenville, SC is a perfectly-sized city with plenty to do in and around the area
*The agency culture is energetic, hard-working, fun-loving and passionate about the business, feels more like a family than any other agency I've been a part of
*The full-service aspect of the agency provides multiple avenues to learn about the industry
Cons:
The PR department is fairly small, but growing, however this this clearly doesn't limit them from doing great work for big-name clients.
Advice for other students:
Work hard, get to know your co-workers, and learn from other departments and positions that you don't work as closely with. Enjoy every second and make the most of the opportunity!

Pros:
- Erwin Penland has an strong company culture. Everybody is smart, but laid back.
- Cool office in downtown Greenville. I love the city of Greenville, SC.
- Learned paid search on Google and Yahoo!/MSN. I ran analysis on these campaigns which is a great hard skill to have.
- Great brands like Verizon and Dunkin' Donuts.
- Assisted with web copy and social media analysis.
- Paid.
Cons:
Fairly regional.
Advice for other students:
Erwin-Penland is one of the few great agencies in the southeast. The recruiters are very nice, so don't be afraid to contact them during the internship application process. Also, get into social media.

Pros:
- Erwin Penland's culture was amazing and I could tell that everybody really enjoyed working there.
- Social media work.
- Research and consumer insights presentation on QSR and fast-casual dining restaruants.
- I'm not much of a big city person, so to find Erwin Penland (200+ people agency) in Greenville SC was amazing.
- Worked on the Verizon Wireless Promo account, managing Florida newspaper publications.
- Great boss and account teams.
Cons:
They're not the agency of record for Verizon, they just get a large portion of the budget.
Advice for other students:
Erwin Penland hires a decent amount of entry level people, so an internship during the summer gives you a great shot at a fulltime offer.

Pros:
- Account exposure at Erwin-Penland. I loved being a part of both the Verizon Wireless' "How Sweet the Sound" campaign and also Confluence Watersports.
- Learned a ton about digital and planning. It's completely different than the classroom.
- Cool office in Greenville, SC.
- Down to earth people.
- Erwin-Penland allowed me to see all different parts of the business: media, creative, and production.
- Going out in Greenville, SC after work, for happy hours, was a blast.
Cons:
It's more of a down to earth and family style agency than the NYC type ad agencies.
Advice for other students:
I loved Erwin Penland. They accept about 8-10 interns, so be aggressive and passionate when you apply.
