El Paso Internship & Company Overview

You are in a challenging, rewarding environment, one that stimulates your creativity and recognizes your innovative spirit.

Welcome to EP Elite, the El Paso internship program designed to provide you with unparalleled experience that makes a difference. EP Elite interns receive competitive hourly salaries and stipends to assist with expenses during the summer.

What does it mean to be a part of Team El Paso? It means being a valuable contributor to an energy industry leader that owns North America’s largest interstate natural gas pipeline system and one of the top 10 domestic exploration and production firms.

Being part of Team El Paso also means that you are here, working with the other members of your team to help El Paso achieve its vision – to be the place to work, the neighbor to have, and the company to own.

Our culture is vibrant, our team is engaged, and our mission is critical. In addition to competitive pay and benefits, we offer innovative flex time and wellness programs that enhance our employees’ work/life balance. The opportunities at El Paso are extensive. We are committed to developing all of our employees and dedicated to creating an environment of inclusion that values our diverse experiences and perspectives. El Paso’s EP Elite program is designed to expose you to our unique culture and to provide you with a variety of career path and networking experiences.

Wherever we hang our sign—Birmingham, Boston, or Brazil—El Paso Corporation’s 5,000 employees deliver excellence through teamwork and are committed to making a difference in communities. As an EP Elite intern, you will have opportunities to participate in our Sharing Team El Paso (STEP) volunteer program and learn what it means to be a part of a company that’s truly engaged with the world outside its walls.

Our interstate gas pipeline system provides solid cash flow and significant growth opportunities, and our exploration and production business is one of the top 10 independent natural gas producers in the United States. We have scale and flexibility to create great business and career opportunities. As an EP Elite member of Team El Paso, you are here, expanding your horizons and enhancing your academic background with assignments that add value to our company’s operations.

Being selected to participate in the EP Elite program means you are here with real responsibilities as members of Team El Paso. You perform real work on real projects, and you will participate in cross-training, giving you exposure to various aspects of the energy industry. At the conclusion of your EP Elite tenure, you will make a presentation about your experiences to senior management.

As a member of EP Elite, you are here, with access and exposure to all levels of management. Part of that access takes place through your involvement in El Paso’s business activities. You will have a mentor – a department head – who will play a major part in your internship. Also, you will participate in a weekly lunch meeting called leadership unplugged. It’s an informal gathering in which EP Elite interns interact with El Paso’s leadership and are presented with information and perspectives about the company’s various business operations.

Our culture emphasizes work/life balance. In addition to challenging, fulfilling work assignments, you will experience many other attractions that our headquarters city has to offer. Houston is the fourth largest city in the United States, and by participating in EP Elite, you will have the opportunity to participate in many activities, such as sports events, museum trips, and other team-building outings.

We will also immerse you in other aspects of the community and show you what we mean by being the neighbor to have by involving you in our STEP volunteer program. You will have the opportunity to join your fellow EP Elite members in activities such as sorting and boxing food for the Food for Seniors program, building trails for area parks, and visiting patients in local hospitals.*

Pros:

I learned a ton about the energy industry and how these larger systems work. As a project management intern, El Paso really teaches you a ton and you get the feeling that they are "investing" in you rather than just trying to get a bunch of busy work out of you for a good value. I was assigned interesting project with good people.

Cons:

not much, good place to be for the summer.

Advice for other students:

El Paso is a great place to intern! They also use the internship program to drive entry level hires into their rotational programs.
