Edelman hires hundreds of summer interns. These internships are mostly in public relations or business functions in support of public relations.
Highlights
Edelman is the largest independent PR agency in the world. If you are looking to get into the public relations industry Edelman is the industry gold.
Internship & Edelman Overview
Edelman's program is designed to introduce students and recent graduates to the business of public relations and to offer an opportunity to be involved in daily account activities, while learning broader strategies. As active members of a designated account team, Trainees/Interns will acquire "hands-on" public relations experience, gaining exposure to areas such as: media relations, website and press material development, video production, special event and press conference planning, internal strategy sessions, and new business research. Edelman also offers opportunities in other areas, including finance and accounting, human resources, and MIS. Programs and compensation vary at each location. *

Pros:
- Edleman put me on clients within the healthcare and technology industries.
- I performed real work, not coffee-type-tasks. I was able to draft press releases, pitch media outlets, and develop/present client facing materials.
- Enjoyed my fellow interns.
- Energy that the PR world creates.
Cons:
Keeping track of media mentions can be a tedious process.
Advice for other students:
My advice is to go help a small business get press and use that story during the interview process. Edelman likes self-starters.

Pros:
- Edelman is the top name in PR. The entire industry knows Edelman.
- Learned the day to day work of PR: media mentions, research, outreach, media lists, etc.
- Drafted my own pitch letters.
- Creative brainstorming sessions.
Cons:
The day-to-day life of an entry level PR employee is not that exciting. There is a lot of hard work involved before you can graduate to the strategic level.
Advice for other students:
Edelman does a great job with interns, solid program.

Pros:
- Client exposure across financial, technology and healthcare sectors.
- Edelman trusted me to write press releases, pitch media, and secure interviews. This was very, very fun to do real work.
- Social media audit and strategy sessions were a ton of fun.
- Loved my manager.
Cons:
- Lots of work.
- Can get competitive.
Advice for other students:
Get after it when you get to your internship. Edelman does a great job allowing students the freedom to take on challenging work.

Pros:
The big "pro" was that Edleman gave me real work. I started off tracking all media mentions of huge Edelman clients like Merck, Pfizer, etc. I then was able to pitch my own stories and I secured coverage in NYTimes, WSJ, and other pubs. I was an exciting internship.
Cons:
- Entry level positions are tough to get.
- Media list and tracking media mentions can be a painful process.
Advice for other students:
Be willing to work hard in PR. Also, Edelman is the top company in PR (in my opinion).
