Echostar Internship & Company Overview

EchoStar offers a summer program that allows interns to experience several areas of EchoStar, while providing intense training opportunities and various social activities. Our program allows for you to interact with students from all across the country as you experience EchoStar and Colorado. There are several planned trips throughout the summer which will expose you to different divisions in the company. You will have the opportunity to visit the Uplink Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming, to see where we broadcast programming to our satellites. We also hike up one of Colorado’s 14er mountains; Charlie Ergen and other EchoStar executives traditionally participate as well. While optional, most of the interns wait all summer for this breathtaking experience. The summer program is twelve weeks long and some interns will be assigned to a specific value-based project, while others work on a daily assignments with our professionals. To help you with this project, some interns will have the opportunity to work with their own mentor as well as a manager. The program is also designed to gain experience working with upper-level management and executives. Our goal, as a company, is to look for interns who are ready to make an impact during their summer internship. We view this program as an extended interview process and are focused on transitioning strong interns into full-time employees after graduation.

Pros:

- Pretty good pay.
- Boss was a cool guy and my co-workers took me out. Generally a good atmosphere and we talked a lot about Atlanta sports teams.

Cons:

- Pretty lame Q&A, not much, if any, strategic thinking.

Advice for other students:

Take a look at EchoStar's summer internship program in Colorado, I imagine it to be much better.

Pros:

- Got to learn the broadcasting business and different roles that go into production.
- Cool co-workers.
- Paid.

Cons:

At EchoStar, I basically entered information into a database that then spit out a report. It felt more like accounting that broadcast production at some points.

Advice for other students:

Good place to learn the ropes, but the internship isn't glamorous.

"Participated in forecasting and some accounts payable"

Pros:

- Echostar has a well organized internship program out in Colorado (which is awesome in the summer by the way).
- Got to know the other interns very well and we all still keep in touch. We went out together and they did a good job of making sure that we all connected.
- Work was pretty interesting. I did some forecasting for different business lines and I worked on an accounts payable spreadsheet project.
- Got paid pretty well.

Cons:

Not much, some of their current employees didn't seem too happy is the only think.

Advice for other students:

EchoStar has a good summer internship program for finance students.
