Internship Stats

Dominion offers paid internships across all business lines with a focus in engineering, technology, and marketing.

Dominion Internship & Company Overview

Dominion is a power and energy company headquartered in Richmond, Virginia that supplies electricity in parts of Virginia and North Carolina and supplies natural gas to parts of West Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and eastern North Carolina. Dominion also has generation facilities in Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois, Connecticut and Massachusetts.

Dominion's internship program can be an incredible opportunity for college or college-bound students. The program engages students for paid work sessions that involve projects or assignments that are closely related to the student's area of study.

Work experiences generally are not required for college credit nor required to satisfy degree or graduation requirements. Work sessions are structured, supervised, professional, and relate to the student's area of study. These experiences allow students to sharpen their skills, develop a network of contacts, assess their strengths, and test classroom theories in real world settings.

In addition to working during school semesters or summer breaks, intern opportunities may include working during other school breaks or on a part-time basis while attending school if the Company has opportunities available.*

Intern pay rates are calculated as a percentage (between 50 and 75 percent) of the applicable college starting rate for the particular academic discipline.

Advice for other students:

I also loved Richmond, small town, but the "Fan" area has some great bars.

Pros:

At Dominion, I wrote and edited our internal intranet news publications. It was pretty interesting work. My managers and the other interns were a blast to hang with.
- Good pay.
- Richmond is cool.
- Dominion is a strong company.

Cons:

- I would have liked to do more creative writing (copywriter style at an agency).
- Wish I was able to write some press releases and try to get them picked up.

Advice for other students:

I wasn't sure about a career at an energy company, but after the summer, I loved Dominion. This led to an entry level job after senior year.

Pros:

Lots of exposure working with an outside ad agency, social atmostphere at the office, nice coworkers, in limited opportunities your opinion was actually valued/you were asked for your insight

Cons:

Work was not particularly interesting, pay was pretty low, people at the office are typically significantly older than you (40+), working with a large majority of women tended to cause unnecessary office drama

Advice for other students:

Not a bad resume booster if you're looking to go into Advertising or PR. Pay attention and try to make sure you are hired as an "Intern" and not as a "Student Worker" as there is a significant difference in hourly pay (Interns are paid about twice as much per hour)

Advice for other students:

Get to know the recruiters if they come to campus.

Advice for other students:

If you are a computer science or information systems major, don't just look at technology companies.
