Pros:
- Able to go to development meetings where producers would talk about different show concepts. This was so fun. By the end, they would ask my opinion and I was able to participate.
- Researched potential talent and categorized show ideas.
- Got to understand the digital space. Some of this was boring, but I upload media onto the web.
- As and intern, I could meet with anybody from Discovery and talk over jobs, etc.
- Worked on and presented a project on Gen Y's media likes/dislikes and possible production ideas to capitalize on this.
Cons:
Nothing really. The was some database entry work that got old, but that was about it.
Advice for other students:
Work hard to network and make contacts for an entry level position.

Pros:
- Worked across teams: web, media, and production.
- Exposed to web analytics for the first time. Great hard skill to have. Really interesting if you are also into business/math and not just a straight media person.
- Smart team and close to DC.
- Office was very cool.
Cons:
Some data plugging responsibilities that got kind of old.
Advice for other students:
Discovery is a good place to intern and learn about the new media biz.

Pros:
I worked in the Casting and Development office of Discovery Studios. Specifically, I handled the logistics for voice-over talent - ausition tapes, offers, and general coordination. It was very exciting. I also enjoyed thinking and researching different show ideas and then pitching them. My boss was terrific and she always took the time to help out and talk career related stuff with me.
Cons:
Unpaid, but I think this is common in media.
Advice for other students:
Discovery is the type of internship that you get out what you put in. When you get there, go after it.

Pros:
- Trained on sales software.
- Discover taught me the basic sales techniques and how to rollup different sales packages/plans.
- Great brand name that everybody has heard of.
- Able to pitch ideas on potential Fortune 50 clients at the end of my internship for advertising integration.
- Good people.
Cons:
Making a sale is a tough process, especially in this economy.
Advice for other students:
Advertising sales and coming up with the right client package is really interesting when you have a company that does so much different content like Discovery. Media as a career could be very fun.

Pros:
- I really enjoyed the actual work. I reviewed DVD submissions from production companies, researched topics, brainstormed show ideas, and talked with perspective producers over the phone.
- My manager was a really nice guy and NYC was a blast.
- Attended pre-greenlight meetings.
Cons:
- I did do a little bit of file organization and database work which can get very redundant. It wasn't too bad.
- Discovery does credit only internship, unpaid.
Advice for other students:
The media business is fun, but salaries are low and competition is high. Be prepared.

Pros:
- I really enjoyed working in the Discovery Education department.
- Worked on marketing materials for potential partners.
- Great boss.
- Given the freedom to develop a promotional on my Mac that talked about DE and how it could be used in the classroom.
- Discovery is a well known company.
Cons:
- Unpaid (credit only).
- Silver Springs is kind of a hike from DC.
Advice for other students:
Discovery is a top notch media company and if you want experience, it's a great place to spend the summer.

Pros:
Discovery gave me a lot of freedom to create and internally pitch potential proposals for advertising clients. Learned internal sales management tool. Pitched a partnership with Honeywell. Also pitched a marketing plan using crowdsourcing and social media.
Cons:
- Unpaid.
- I'm not sure how Discovery will use my work.
Advice for other students:
We active in your university's ad club. Our ad club is great at exposing students and placing interns.
