Or working for a global agency with clients that make their competitors drool? Welcome to the Digitas Summer Internship Program.Who we want: Put simply—pioneers. This program is not just for advertising students! We are less concerned with your major: it's your prowess and attitude that really turn us on. We want to use you for real client work—(gasp)—not grunt work.Your role:This program will be a growth experience—it's all about you. That said, what you gain from these ten weeks will depend entirely on your energy, your level of involvement, and how hard you are willing to push yourself.During the application process, you'll be able to choose which department (we call them capabilities) to focus on during your time here: Account Planning, Creative, Finance, HR, Marketing, Media, Project Management, and Strategy & Analysis. There will also be weekly training sessions that will give you exposure to the other capabilities and how they work together within our agency. The fine print: Our 2011 internship is 10-week program beginning on Monday, June 6, and ending on Friday, August 12. Positions are available in our U.S. offices: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Detroit, New York, Philadelphia, and Stamford, CT. Pay rate is $400 per week. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA or higher and be a rising collegiate junior or senior. A resume or portfolio, cover letter, and writing sample by which you will attempt to woo us must be submitted by January 28, 2011, to be considered. Pros:

Digitas Detroit was a heck of a summer. Really enjoyed the internship. Gained experience in mobile and tablet which is clowing up right now. Worked with big brands, GMC and Buick. Trusted to work on GMC customer testimonials and publish content on social channels. Learned the brief writing process. Overall, the Digitas internship was a valuable experience in digital and the #1 thing I'll take away is mobile strategy.

Cons:

none

Advice for other students:

Mobile is growing like crazy right now - you need to understand mobile. If you're a mobile developer and you can be strategic, everyone will hire you.

Pros:

- Digitas intern project where we were given an assignment and able to pitch a solution to senior mgmt.
- Very cool to learn how media is bought and sold. Much more quantitative that I realized. Now I know why those audience tracking and data companies are so profitable.
- People.
- I worked on the American Express account, which I enjoyed. It was cool to work with a multi-million dollar spend.

Cons:

The advertising world doesn't pay well unless you get to a very senior position or partner.

Advice for other students:

I loved my agency experience at Digitas, but I'm just not sure about the potential to earn a good living - vs consulting or banking.

Pros:

- Digital advertising is hot right now and Digitas is a strong digital shop.
- Growing.
- Clients like Aflac and Goodyear (although I know way too much about tires right now).
- Worked a bunch with the creative technology team and loved it. I think at a lot of account mgmt internships, you don't have access to the creative process, not at Digitas.
- People.
- Paid. I think it was $400/week.
- Given freedom to develop and pitch a campaign for Aflac enrollment.

Cons:

Competitive research is fun, but I can tell it was kind of filler work.

Advice for other students:

Be passionate. I think passion is the #1 reason people get great internships or fail to get great internships.

Pros:

At Digitas, I worked on the Merrill Lynch account. My team did some fascinating docus group research and we were tasked with extracting actionable insights. I really enjoyed the work. Loved the people. Cool office. Heck, I loved it all.

Cons:

I wanted me creative exposure.

Advice for other students:

I highly recommend an internship at Digitas. I also recommend learning more hard skills like photoshop and programming.

Pros:

Digitas was incredible to work for. The people really standout to me and the work was truly solving client problems. I was on a large financial services account (huge digital budgets) and got to see how they plan media and execute creative. It gets pretty technical at that scale. I learned the DSP, ad server, and DFP world. Another interesting part was that we launched a small business acquisition campaign (b2b) which is different than the type of marketing I'm used to. Overall, cool office and cool people.

Cons:

Didn't really interact too much with the creative department.

Advice for other students:

Mobile is huge. Digitas is all over it and clients are talking and asking questions about it. My advice is to understand mobile.

Pros:

- Sharp media team. Didn't realize the amount of analytics and math that goes into media decisions. Really enjoyed learning that side of the business.
- Intern events.
- Everybody is easy to talk to.
- Chance to pitch a project/campaign.
- I learned a ton about media, tech, and planning. Amazing. If you can get in, take the Digitas internship.

Cons:

I don't know if I'll get a fulltime offer. Not sure they hire a ton of entry level people.

Advice for other students:

If you happen to have personal projects or you're involved in a web startup, don't be afraid to bring them up and talk about them. Having the entrepreneurial spirit at Digitas is a great thing.

Pros:

I think the best part of the internship was that at the end of the summer, you know how the whole agency works and you've met incredibly talented people. Knowing how the agency works gives you a better understanding of which part of a digital agency you would like to work in. I also got hands on experience through real client projects. I felt like part of the team and not just a lowly intern. And, I loved the things I got to be involved with like parties, speakers, new biz pitches, planning meetings, pitching my own project, and social events. Digitas truly has an amazing internship program.

Cons:

I wouldn't change anything.

Advice for other students:

Find a way in. Get creative. And, try to find a current Digitas employee that you can network with.

Pros:

- Real client work got produced.
- Felt like part of the Digitas creative team. Got to meet with senior creatives to pitch work, etc.
- Felt like we were leading advertising. Smart people working hard.
- I created banner copy and some direct mail pieces. It was pretty interesting to see the mix of creative vs. analytics.
- I really connected with the Digitas culture. Kind of laid back, but hard working. Results oriented.
- Explored NYC with other interns and co-workers.

Cons:

Sometimes I felt like analytics watered down creative.

Advice for other students:

Digitas is a great place to intern. Find a way in. And, NYC is a blast.

Other pros:
- Smart, intelligent people
- Learning seminars
- Managers are willing to help you learn and show you the ropes.

Cons:

none.
