Darden offers a variety of ways for students to enhance their education during and after college. In our restaurants, we offer restaurant management internships to college students pursuing hospitality degrees as well as full-time management opportunities for graduates starting as a Manager in Training (MIT).

Whether an Intern or MIT, you’ll put your hospitality education and previous work experience to great use as you rotate through hourly and management positions in both the front and back of house. As a developing leader in your restaurant, you’ll grow personally and professionally every step of the way. Inspiring your employees to deliver an excellent dining experience and encouraging them to reach for their goals by living Our Core Values, you will see how you can make a difference. Darden Restaurants MBA Internships - Summer 2011

The Darden Restaurants Internship Program provides students an opportunity to work side by side with professionals and executives within one’s chosen field of Marketing or Finance, as well as gaining valuable hands-on experience.

As part of the internship program, participants will have the chance to meet and interact with key individuals and executives of the company. Also, a “Darden Buddy” will be assigned to provide one the opportunity to better understand the Darden company and culture.

In addition to the day to day work experience, participants will also be involved with projects that may impact our future business. Students will receive valuable feedback about their performance through a mid-point and final evaluation review.

Positions are located at our Restaurant Support Center in Orlando, Florida. Internships are a 12 week program beginning in late May/June. Candidates interested in applying must meet the minimum requirements and agree to the terms of the program.

We have partnerships with the following schools:

  • Duke University
  • University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill
  • University of Florida*

Pros:

I worked in the corporate Finance department at Darden. I actually didn't know the portfolio of restaurants that Darden owned when I first heard about them. The best parts about the internship was the project-based work, management listens to interns, and you get to see a heck of a restaurant model across varies outlets. The internship is very well designed and gave me a good "feel" for what a fulltime finance position would be like.

Cons:

Not much.

Advice for other students:

Work hard and dinner at Olive Garden will never be the same (you'll be crunching numbers in your head)!

Pros:

- Able to work closely with the whole brand team.
- Learned the analytics systems and measurement tactics that Darden uses to gauge success.
- Inspiring and strong marketers at Darden who are willing to share their knowledge.
- I was taken seriously in meetings and directly able to apply some of the things I learned in business school.
- Got to see the brand work alongside with an agency.
- Good pay and upbeat/optimistic atmosphere.

Cons:

Nothing, Darden has a ton of great brands. I guess I would like to see more creative work during the process.

Advice for other students:

Don't be afraid to contribute, sometimes a fresh marketing perspective can be helpful.
