Pros:

I didn't know a single thing about the railroad business going into this internship at CSX. By the end, I felt like a railroad pro. Everybody was nice to me as an intern and they took a ton of time to teach me the ropes. Railroads are a huge business.

Cons:

Sometimes I felt like I wasn't conrtibuting very much - I was more learning that contributing.

Advice for other students:

You'll learn a ton during an internship at CSX. If you are into railroads or operations, this is a great spot.

Pros:

- Accounting team took a problem solving like approach and offered solutions.
- CSX is a great coompany.
- Great boss.
- The actual accounting projects I was assigned to were pretty interesting (strategic).

Cons:

I hope the skills I learned can translate to other industry.

Advice for other students:

My CSX internship was a good fit. I really enjoyed it and I still keep in touch with several people from the company. My advice is simple: work hard and meet people.

Pros:

- The CSX business is huge compared to what people think.
- Gained understanding of audit procedures.
- Friendly team.
- Exposure to working with internal and external accounting teams.

Cons:

- This type of business is a lot different than silicon valley. I don't know if that makes sense, but it just feels more old school.
- Be prepared to ask a lot of questions.

Advice for other students:

Exposure to audit is important. An internship like this also gets me ready for a job/internship at one of the big accounting firms.
