Coventry Health Care Internhip & Company Overview
Coventry Health Care was established in 1986 as a provider of managed health care services, offering members a wide choice of options, high standards of care and affordable rates. Since our founding, Coventry has experienced dramatic growth, increasing membership and an expansion of its service areas. At Coventry Health Care, we are driven to ensure that every person and organization we serve receives the greatest possible value for their health care investment. We do this by providing a full range of competitive products through our seven core businesses – Commercial Risk, Medicare Advantage, Medicare Part D, Medicaid, Workers' Comp Services, FEHBP, and Network Rental. With nearly 5.3 million members in all 50 states at the end of 2009, we are committed to constantly improving our low-cost platform so that we can deliver the products and services that our customers want at a price they can afford. Coventry has the expertise, the experience, and the agility to craft the new products, the new processes, and the new service needed to make healthcare more accessible to all Americans. *

Pros:
Coventry Health has a lot of complex technology systems, so it was interesting to see the variety of projects that their technology group works on. Some are very practical applications. Everybody at Coventry was nice/smart and helpful to me during the internship.
Cons:
Workflow was a little tricky at times because there was so much going on and I wasn't sure what to do when.
Advice for other students:
Health and technology is a great place to be with a ton of jobs. If you are a computer science major, you should look into an internship like this and decide what you think before going off to a strictly it firm. Just my $.02.

Pros:
At the Coventry internship, I learned what an actuarial intern does. I basically worked on rates, estimates, projections, and recommended financial projections for certain markets. It was pretty interesting and they really do a good job explaining the career progression for entry level hires at Coventry.
Cons:
Sometimes I didn't have too much to do.
Advice for other students:
Coventry offers some good internships are they are a direct way to get an offer into their actuarial professional programs.
