Project-based Internships
This type of intern is assigned a specific project or task in a particular department. The intern focuses on a specific issue or assignment that can be resolved or completed within a predetermined timeframe (usually less than 90 days). This can be a full time or part time position, and can take place during the summer or throughout a school semester.

Summer Internship
This program operates during colleges' summer break and is usually full-time (40 hours per week) for 9-12 weeks. Typically, this comprehensive program's objectives are to provide an overview of Avnet's business, rotations through various positions within the company, and project work related to current business objectives. This program typically involves interns from various schools and involves the participation of several Avnet business groups.

We are seeking self-motivated, computer literate majors of Business, Industrial Distribution, Computer Sciences, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or Marketing.

As an Avnet Intern you will gain valuable hands-on training in an operating group that fits your degree program. Groups include sales, product management logistics, IT, supply chain, materials management, finance, or product marketing.

Sales and Marketing Representatives focus on servicing inbound calls from existing and potential customers. Functions of this job include handling customer requirements regarding pricing and delivery, proposals, quoting product lines and negotiating all services and costs with a customer as well as senior buyers and purchasing agents to secure an order. This position regularly interfaces with product management and customer service, field sales, manufacturers and line and corporate management to outline plans and to secure successful sales in the local market.

Integration and Engineering interns focus on observation, analysis, trend identification & recommendation on processes, time observations in production environment, product planning, logistics and integration, and continuous improvement methodologies and engineering.

IT interns will focus on developing web-based internal and external business applications, programming, data analysis and testing.

Supply Chain Analyst coordinate inventory scheduling and capacity balancing for customers while ensuring compliance with contractual obligations. Tasks include analyzing customer forecasts for materials, monitoring inventory pipelines, preparing forecast models, and creating reports for customers detailing inventory availability and status.

Materials Management interns focus on planning, scheduling and monitoring the movement of materials, providing input on supplier suitability as it relates to purchasing decisions, ensuring product shipment and delivery, monitoring material levels, and anticipating customer demand on products.

Product Marketing interns focus on tracking and analyzing marketing activities, ROI reporting on programs and promotions, coordinating partner enrollment in marketing programs, partnering with sales teams & product managers to collect, qualify & communicate information on sales leads and opportunities.

Product Specialists focus on teaming up with Avnet Sales to collect, qualify and communicate information about opportunities between suppliers and sales team. Functions of this job include making pricing decisions in the quotation process according to guidelines, negotiating pricing for customer-specific opportunities, responding to sales team on customer quotation and authorizing orders, optimizing gross profit goals, regularly reviewing, auditing and resolving sales order systems data, and placing factory drop ship purchase orders.*

Pros:

- Avnet was very welcoming and supportive of interns.
- Well organized program. College recruiting team is terrific to deal with.
- Learned a ton about how supply chain really works. worked on customer forecasts and inventory pipelines.
- My team was very smart, really enjoyed working with them.

Cons:

Sometimes I didn't have too much work to do and sometimes the work got tedious.

Advice for other students:

I got an offer for a fulltime job, which I took. The Avnet internship program is a great pipeline into an entry level position. Stay in touch with the recruiters/hr.

Pros:

- Saw both sales and product. How the whole cycle works and is managed.
- Good pay.
- Well organized and helpful program. Pipeline to entry level jobs.
- Hugely successful company.

Cons:

I wish Avnet was more well known (the brand). Some work was clerical type stuff, which is okay and expected.

Advice for other students:

Avnet is a good company to intern for, I recommend this internship.
