Pros:
- Managers are willing to help and teach.
- Your in real meetings talking over real dollars.
- Learned to synthesize data/research on equity an bond market.
Cons:
It's not like Wall Street (the movie)! Personal wealth management is a lot slower pace. Not a trading floor.
Advice for other students:
Learned a ton about strategic investment planning. Apply.

Pros:
You learn how wealth management team analyzes portfolios, sells investment products, and generally does their work. Kind of a behind the scenes on being a broker.
Cons:
A lot of work was the behind the scenes stuff like data entry, organizing, setting up meetings, and analyzing portfolios with their tools.
Advice for other students:
Solid internship, exactly what I expected.

Pros:
I didn't know a lot about the fixed income side of the investment business, but I took this internship because I wanted to learn (and be in NYC). I got lucky. Awesome internship. My managers were terrific. Answered my questions. Took the time to explain to me how the products worked and what investment strategies to incorporate them with.
Cons:
Definitely some data entry and back office stuff.
Advice for other students:
Overall, productive internship and I'm a fan of Ameriprise Financial.

Pros:
- You get to see how financial advisers run their business.
- I worked on analysis of a couple high net worth individuals. Ran reports, etc. That was pretty interesting.
Cons:
Lots of secretary like work. Setting up stuff. Organizing stuff, etc. Not too fun.
Advice for other students:
I guess if you work with a financial planner, it is kind of hit of miss. This isn't a trading floor, don't expect that.

Pros:
- Exposure to different financial philosophies. This was really interesting to me. Aggressive vs conservative.
- Wealth Managers in my office took me out to lunch, shared their take on the markets, talked over strategies, and answered any of my questions.
- The best thing about this internship is that you learn how being a financial planner works. You'll know whether or not it's a good fit for you.
Cons:
- I wish the pay was better.
- Like to get a better understand of complex trades.
Advice for other students:
The Ameriprise Financial branch internships all depend on what your branch is like. I got lucky, my branch was terrific to me.

Pros:
Pay, relaxed environment, diverse exposure to other areas of the business if you're interested, research was appealing to me.
Cons:
Plug and chug spreadsheets. Not given too much responsibility, but that's expected.
Advice for other students:
Um, be careful where you end up at Amp HQ. Make sure you're interested in the business. If you're in a product group, I'm sorry. It's a relaxed corporate environment, nice facilities, i can't really complain too much.

Pros:
Worked in a branch doing mostly support functions. I did love that you get to see exactly how a branch works. It's not glamorous work and Wall Street style stuff, but that was okay with me. I learned a ton of client management in general - stuff I would never have learned in school. Overall, enjoyed it.
Cons:
I'd love to have a finance internship in NYC to compare the attitude of the office and learn how products, trading, etc are done.
Advice for other students:
Financial Advisory (whether at Ameriprise) or other, is different than investment banking type stuff - make sure you know which experience you're looking for.
